Porcelain Dolls Collection

It seems that almost every little girl loves to play with dolls and as they grow up many of them turn to collecting the dolls they once played with. In fact as they become adults many of them turn what seemed like a small hobby into a large pastime as they began to assemble a fair sized porcelain doll collection that might even have a complete room of its own in their home. The big question is how many of the dolls in their collection are considered collectible and how many are just pretty little dolls that look good in their collection? Since their creation porcelain dolls were never really intended to be given to little girls to play with. They were far too delicate and were created more with older young ladies and women in mind to create their own porcelain doll collections. These collectible dolls were each hand made from pouring the head in a mold to painstakingly painting every feature and color in place.

Dolls this beautiful and fragile were made to be put on a shelf not in a toy box. What make a doll worthy of being placed in a porcelain dolls collection? It must be carefully examined down to the last detail. Every millimeter of the porcelain is examined for cracks, chips and scratches, most especially the face area which is considered the most fragile. Any flaw no matter how small will bring down the value to a porcelain doll collector, however finding a doll that still has all of its original clothing and accessories can also add to its overall value. In the mid to late 19th century many of the well known porcelain doll makers placed their hallmark and the doll mold number on the back of the dolls neck. Not only does this help to identify the doll and when it was made but it can determine just how valuable an addition it is to your porcelain dolls collection.

However some of the more rare handmade porcelain dolls from the mid to late 19th century were made in small cottage type industries in Europe and bear no marks of any kind to help identify who made them and when, yet they are an extremely rare and valuable addition to any collection. Another valuable member of a porcelain dolls collection are the limited run dolls such as those made by many manufacturers for special occasions such as Christmas or particular Royal Coronations that once the last doll was made the mold was destroyed and the doll never made again. Dolls such as these rank among the most valuable in any collection. Today there are a new group of artisans that are once again creating a collection of porcelain dolls designed solely with the collector in mind. At Yolis Dolls, each doll is a unique hand crafted masterpiece. No two are ever made the same; each doll is designed to represent one of them any tribes of Persia the homeland of the artist who creates them and comes with a certificate of authenticity and a display stand.
